But beyond the chocolate itself, Goldman has an equally contagious enthusiasm for the business.

“This is not a serious business. It is the biggest indulgence on Earth,” Goldman quipped with a smile.

On Tuesday, Godiva’s CEO presented some of the key aspects of its indulgent niche in the chocolate industry at Princeton University as a part of Business Today’s Seminar Series.

The Half-Life of a Facebook Post and Internet Psychology

Shocking fact 1: Did you know the half-life of a Facebook post is 1 hour and 20 minutes? Fifty percent of likes occur within 1 hour and 20 minutes of posting and 95% of likes occur within 22 hours. Basically, a Facebook post has a one day expiration date. This kind of information poses useful for corporations and artists who want to create the greatest impact for every post they make. Creating posts too frequently does not allow for all the potential individuals to interact with them and creating posts too sparsely does not allow for the potential amount of engagement possible given a certain fanbase.

Social Media– Out with Consumers, In with Prosumers

Obama’s inauguration speech viewed by 4 million.
Lady Gaga’s Born This Way viewed by 32 million.
Rebecca Black’s Friday viewed by 88 million.

The numbers say everything there is to know about the collective resonance of ideas in a community at a time– the abstract movements of thought that are pulled by all the informational forces we receive. Given the data, we can conclude that America should be embarrassed for itself. Not only are we known as Mc-Coca-Cola country, we now have Rebecca Black as our ambassador.

The video was so successful precisely due to its mediocrity, self mockery, and mystery. Obviously produced in an independent, low budget setting, set to horrible lyrics and yet still retaining the sincerity of a serious art piece, people asked is Rebecca Black “for real”? This itching question has attracted viewers to view this video over and over again try to figure out how such a bad video could be put out.

The answer: Only on Youtube.
