The Game of Politics

There is often a stigma associated with the word politics. The negative connotation of comes from the belief in the cut throat in attitude from some participants. However, one can contribute in the game without this disposition. How? The development of a strong work-ethic and a genuine interest for the well-being of others is the best answer. Further research to educate one’s knowledge of the topic is also useful. This brief article may act as a catalyst for curiosity.

In order to be competitive in the game of politics, one must understand the meaning of the word. For clarification, Merriam-Webster’s Online Dictionary states the denotation as, “competition between competing interest groups or individuals for power and leadership (as in a government).” Among other definitions, Merriam-Webster provides a connotation which states the “complex interactions between people in an environment.” While there are business professionals who will still refuse to recognize politics as a part their career, students and young professionals should make note of politics as an ordinary dynamic in their careers. The choice to properly participate in office politics is sure to enhance one’s success in the future.

The perception of how one views competition their office environment may vary. The fact that competition exists cannot be denied. Recognizing office politics is the first step towards a brighter future. The second step is a matter of the individual’s preference in their approach.
