Triggers: Helping you succeed in business

The secret of business success is out. And it is as old as time. The good ‘ol idea of hard work, research and luck can all contribute to business success. One of the most important aspects of the researching component is understanding triggers and using them to your advantage. What are the triggers that can effect the future of selling and marketing groups? They are “specific business events- such as an executive move, financial results or a company merger- that will likely have an effect on a potential customer’s buying decision”

Studying these triggers can make or break a business transaction. Not knowing the company, and falling to competitors could mean the loss of business.

In order to succeed, it is important to know these triggers and cater to a company, ensuring you have their best interests in mind. Tim Aley of factiva.com, discusses business transactions that have been successful due to companies “taking a holistic view of their customers and becoming well versed in specific scenarios that would create a need for their products and services.” Further, he states that “in order to truly make the best possible impression, you must understand your prospect's core markets, organizational structure, culture, and decision-making process - and be aware of current news relevant to that prospect.”

This information rings true, even on a college campus. Know your audience. Whether it is a paper, presentation, or precept, be sure you know who you are dealing with in order to perform your best. You never know what trigger may help you succeed.
